What do we do?

We give out food parcels containing 3 days’ worth of food to people in crisis situations, as identified by partner agencies. Normally we limit food parcels to 3 per client in a 6 month period, however we will never turn away a family in need.

 

How do we operate?

We operate a voucher system, and only give out food to people through one of our partner agencies. Partner agencies hold vouchers which they fill out with a client in a food crisis.

Information requested on the voucher forms do not include name but do include postcode, number of people in the household, ages of children (if applicable) and main reason(s) for crisis (tick boxes).

 

What do we do with the information on the voucher?

We treat it confidentially according to our Data Protection and Privacy Policy. We hold the information for our own administrative purposes and to provide collated information about food bank usage.  

                                                                                     

Who are our Partner Agencies?

We are willing to work with any statutory or voluntary community agency which can identify people who are in a crisis situation and unable to feed themselves or their family adequately.

 

These include Citizens Advice Bureaux, Leeds City Council One Stop Centres (and other LCC services), Otley Children’s Centre, Local Schools, District Nurses, Health Visitors, GP Surgeries, Social Workers, Local Churches, Otley Action for Older People etc.

Our food vouchers and helpline numbers are only for use by our partner agencies, so we do not publicise these on the website.

 

Who collects or delivers the Food?

If possible, the agency filling out the voucher also collects the food for the client from the food bank store in Otley. This can be done at our regular opening times or by calling our mobile helpline (we have two mobile numbers, both on constant availability through the day) and making an arrangement.

 

If it is not possible for the partner agency to collect the food from us, the partner agency emails us the voucher and calls our helpline to inform us and to discuss the best delivery arrangements. We will then deliver the food parcel to the client or to the partner agency.

 

Where is the Food Bank based?

We store food at our premises in Otley, which is owned by Leeds City Council.

 

Who runs Otley Food Bank?

Otley Food Bank comes under the auspices of ‘Churches Together in Otley’. It is run by a Steering Committee drawn from volunteers from Churches and the wider community.  The Steering Committee is overseen by a Management Committee on behalf of Churches Together in Otley.

 

What are the Current opening times of the Food Store?

The current opening times are:Mondays 11 -12 (not Bank Holidays)

Wednesdays 3 - 4

Fridays 2 – 3

These may change so partner agencies should check by phoning one of our helplines.
